Mt. Tapulao
(High Peak)
Mt. Tapulao (International Name "High Peak") at 2037 meters is the Highest point in the Zambales Ranges, located in Palauig, it is a "Pristine" area that is a joy to behold, wild orchids abound in the area, along with "Jade vines" these are truly spectacular when in flower.
The lower reaches of the Mountain are grassland, at around 600 meters elevation you come to dense "Rain Forest" local guides can show the hunting trails that are throughout the area, don't be supprised if you cannot see the cunningly disquised entry points yourself.
Upon passing through the Rain Forest, at around 950 meters elevation, you come to beautiful centries old Pine trees and the remains of the Mining Camps Recreation area. The Top of Mt. Tapulao was mined for Chromite since the early 1900's until about 10 years ago. The Mine area and Buildings are still there to this day.
There is a reasonable track and guides are available, most people can easily hike to the Pine Forest and back in a day, however you need to be reasonably fit to make the peak and back in the daylight.
Please remember the slogan of the Palauig Tourism Council.
"Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but foot prints"
